event description

SFU Harbour Centre, Downtown Vancouver

Robert Sapolsky has called Dr. Bruce McEwen the "leading living scholar of stress" along with Dr. Michael Kerr, the Director of the Georgetown Family Center. Bringing together these men and five other remarkable scholars, this conference will explore the interplay between family relationships and the physiology of stress. The lens will be widened on how the stress response of the individual fits into an understanding of the family as an emotional unit.

Dr. McEwen has a breadth of knowledge about the implications of stress on the brain and gender differences. Dr. Kerr has studied ways in which chronic anxiety in the family can contribute to chronic physical illness in a family member(s).

The other scientists and researchers will explore parenting, early life adversity, chronic anxiety and allostatic load, the transmission of biological vulnerability from one generation to the next, and more.
